Yes, it’s true, I’m a bit of a gamer.
I wouldn’t say I’m a hardened pro, but I can hold my own in a game of Call of Duty.
I’ve always loved gaming. Growing up, I followed my older brother around like a lost puppy, and I loved whatever he loved; running, jumping, climbing trees and gaming.
I shot my first zombie before I could tell the time.

If you’re expecting a professional critique of the best games of all time by a seasoned gamer… you’re in the wrong place.
This list of my 10 Best Console Games is a mix of games that remind me of childhood, fun games to play with others, and generally just games that I love to play.
They may not be the best games, but they’re my favourites!
1.) Mario Kart – Wii
It’s just a classic. Even if you don’t like playing games, you’re pretty much guaranteed to enjoy Mario Kart. A great one to play with family and friends for a laugh. Who doesn’t want to throw down a pesky banana skin to beat your opponents to the win?
My love for Skyrim is never-ending. I dread to think of the cumulative hours I have spent rising through the ranks of the Guilds and filling my pockets with ridiculous items that no one could possibly ever carry in their pocket. I would recommend it to anyone, although I’d be prepared to lose a lot of hours out of your day when addiction sets in.
3.) The Monkey Island Saga
These games are complete genius, not to mention hilarious. First-person problem solving with ridiculous plots and a witty commentary by the main character Guybrush Threepwood. I bought ‘Escape From Monkey Island’ on Playstation 2 when I was about 9 or 10 and have been hooked ever since.
4.) Pokemon (Gameboy)
I’m talking about Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver & Crystal. As far I’m concerned, everything after that doesn’t count, as they started repeating Pokemon and it just got stupid. I played these constantly as a kid, and a few times recently. It just never gets old! And, unfortunately, I am yet to ‘catch ’em all’, but I will do it one day, I am so determined!
5.) Luigi’s Mansion (Nintendo Gamecube)
Words cannot describe how much I love this game. Let’s just start by clearing up the fact that Luigi is 100x cooler than Mario, and he finally gets the credit he deserves in this game! What could be better than an Italian plumber sucking up ghosts with a vacuum to save his brother? Nothing. Except when you get to be the one to help him do it. Priceless.
6.) The Sims (PC)
I go through phases of playing it non-stop in a frenzy of addiction to forgetting it exists. Ultimately though, I always end up coming back to it, because it is really just so fun to create people and live their lives how you want and essentially ‘play God’. Whether that be controlling everyday life or deleting the ladder from the swimming pool (don’t lie, we’ve all done it).
7.) Left 4 Dead
Hooray for killing zombies! So it does get a bit repetitive, and it’s not going to win any awards for story-telling, but I love to play this game on the co-op setting with friends as it can be such a good laugh. I’d recommend playing with the difficulty setting for added hilarity just from sheer ridiculousness.
8.) Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (PS2)
Aside from the fact that I love all things Harry Potter, this game is great for it’s free-roaming feature. I’ve spent a lot of time just wandering around Hogwarts, completing mini-games and collecting chocolate frog cards; which is sometimes just what you feel like rather than doing the main quest storyline. The Prisoner of Azkaban game that followed is actually better as a game, but this one made the list because it is the first game that I ever 100% completed from start to finish by myself. Which, I count as a legitimate achievement.
9.) Resident Evil (Nintendo Gamecube)
I am a massive fan of all the Resident Evil games, spanning over several consoles. But this original version on the Nintendo Gamecube is by far my favourite. It later became much more of a first-person zombie-hoard shooter like Left 4 Dead, but this game is all about the problem-solving and most importantly – the suspense. I play this game with my heart in my mouth and jumping at any small noise. I’m praying they remaster it one day and re-release it on PC!
Go and play it!!
10.) Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
This is one of the first games I remember playing. It’s still amazing, a great adventure game for all ages I think, plus I love getting the old school N64 out! I think this is my favourite out of all the Zelda games; you can’t go wrong with a classic!
So those are my 10 Best Console Game Picks!
